What is a saber?
The saber is the modern version of the cavalry sword. The saber is a cutting and slashing weapon as well as a thrusting weapon (utilizing the tip of the blade as well as the sides). The target area is from the waist up, both arms and the head, simulating a cavalryman on a horse.
How would you describe saber fencing?
Saber fencing is fast, athletic, and requires quick reflexes and good balance, it instills self confidence, self respect, and helps develop respect for others.
What kind of equipment do I have to buy?
The saber fencer's uniform includes a metallic jacket (lamé), which covers the target area to register a valid touch on the electronic scoring machine. The mask also has a metallic covering since the head is a valid target area.
Initially, you only need basic athletic attire and you can rent equipment for a small monthly fee. As you become more familiar with the sport, you may want to purchase your own fencing gear.

Can my child get a college scholarship by fencing?
Fencing is a collegiate sport and many colleges and universities offer fencing scholarships to men and women throughout the US. Besides college fencing, there are many opportunities to fence internationally through national teams that represent the United States all over the world. There are national teams at every age level, 12 and above. Fencing is also an olympic sport event for both men and women.
